Snippet Sunday’s Swashbuckler~Meeting Rodger #3

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors. It just happens to be my favorite day of the week. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by! After you read my snippet, please be sure to visit the other extremely talented writers participating this weekend.

Quick set-up: Rachel has a business meeting scheduled with Rodger Conrad, an A-list actor, a man who happens to play the main role in all her fantasies. 😉 They’ve never met in person and Rachel’s wondering if this might not be a joke at her expense. She’s just arrived at the restaurant where she’s to meet Rodger.

“I’m meeting someone here, but I’m a bit late,” Rachel told the host. She glanced into the dimly lit restaurant. There were only a few guests, mostly business people, based on their suits and coiffed hair. There was one family, tourists with I luv SF sweatshirts, just beginning to dig into the bread basket set down in front of them. A waft of freshly baked sourdough tickled her nose, the warmth warring with the growing cold in her belly. There was no Rodger Conrad. Her breathing hitched and her feet threatened to turn themselves around and walk out the door. It still wasn’t too late to run.

  1. Oh that nervous fear that says RUN! You captured that well and set the scene in the restaurant too. I like when I can visualize where I am. Great 8!

(On a side note: Yes I’ve read the third one in the series. It was good but there was more action in the first two. And more of Annie’s clever guise as Madam Sybil in the first two. I do love the era though. As to mine, it is a true story, not fiction, all taken from court files, testimony, and newspaper accounts. )
    The Murders of Polly Frisch

  2. Love the visual. You put me right there. I do hope she stays. It’s not everyday you meet your fantasy in person. lol
