Snippet Sunday–Wisps of romance

Welcome to Snippet Sunday (well, it’s Sunday somewhere in the world)! Thank you for stopping by to read my contribution to this weekly event. For more information on the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, go ahead and click here.

This snippet is from Swashbuckler, my contemporary romance that’s out on submission. Rodger has planned a romantic weekend getaway up in the Napa Valley of California (wine country). In this scene, they’ve gone on a horseback ride up to a pretty spot in the hills and they’ve just finished having a picnic.

As always, your feedback is welcomed! Enjoy!clouds

The clouds slipped past the tree branches, white wisps against the pale blue of the California sky. Rachel brushed the crumbs off her shirt, stretched, then lay back on the picnic blanket. She felt the glass of champagne she’d drank as her body adjusted to the new position.

“It’s so quiet up here.” She smiled at Rodger as he sat down next to her and reached out her hand, inviting him to come closer, hoping that he’d take her up on the offer. Besides the one little grope when she was struggling to get on the horse, he’d been a perfect gentleman.

Disappointingly so.

Rodger stretch out his body next to her, propping himself on his elbow. “They’re probably ready for us back down at the house.”

“Are we in a hurry?”

Rodger gave a slow, lazy smile that made Rachel’s heart kick up a notch. He shifted and leaned closer, but not close enough. His lips stayed on his side of the personal divide.

  1. Hmmm… Now who’s teasing who here? LOL. I think they’re both waiting for the other to make the first move, so the only question left then is: Who’s going to cave first?
